Brioche Rib



You can enter the brioche knitting world with this simple rib: no increases or decreases, only brioche knit and brioche purl.

Yarn:

MC: YarnArt Baby
CC: Red Heart Detroit

Needles:

4 mm - US 6

Notions:

Marker(m), tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

k - knit
p - purl
brk - brioche knit
brp - brioche purl
sl1yo - slip 1 pwise with yarn over needle
sl1 wyib - slip 1 pwise with yarn in back
sl1 wyif - slip 1 pwise with yarn in front
MC - main color yarn
CC - contrast color yarn
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
m - marker
st(s) - stitch(es)

Directions:

With main color yarn cast-on an odd number of stitches

In the beginning knit once the set-up rows:
Row 1 (RS MC): k1, *sl1yo, k1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif. Slide stitches to other end of needle.  
Row 2 (RS CC): sl1 wyif, *brp1, sl1yo;rep from *, brp1, sl1 wyif. Turn work.  
Row 3 (WS MC): k1, *sl1yo, brp1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif. Slide stitches to other end of needle.
Row 4 (WS CC): sl1 wyib *brk1, sl1yo; rep from *, brk1, sl1 wyib. Turn work.  

After that repeat only the rows below:
Row 5 (RS MC): k1, *sl1yo, brk1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif. Slide stitches to other end of needle.  
Row 6 (RS CC): sl1 wyif, *brp1, sl1yo; rep from *, brp1, sl1 wyif. Turn work.  
Row 7 (WS MC): k1, *sl1yo, brp1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif. Slide stitches to other end of needle.
Row 8 (WS CC): sl1 wyib *brk1, sl1yo; rep from *, brk1, sl1 wyib. Turn work.

Repeat rows only 5-8 until reached the desired length.  
Bind off and weave in loose ends.
