Interweave Cowl - Brioche Knitting

Directions:

With main color yarn cast-on:
(24 x 4 pattern repeats) + 1 stitch for joining the round = 97 stitches

1. Set-up round:
Work row 1 with main color yarn.
Round 1 MC: *k1, sl1yo; rep from*.
After that, join the contrast color yarn and work round 2.

2. Beginning rib:
Repeat rounds 2-3 until reached the desired rib height. Finish with round 4.

Round 2 CC: *sl1yo, brp1; rep from*.
Note: knit the “brkyobrk” sts from previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo
          and the “br4st inc” sts from previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo, p1, sl1yo
After each even round in contrast color yarn, pick-up the main color yarn and knit the even round.

Round 3 MC: *brk1, sl1yo; rep from*.
After each odd round in main color yarn, pick-up the contrast color yarn and knit the even round.

Round 4 CC = round 2

3. Pattern:
Round 15 MC: *brRsl, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 2 times, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo, brk1, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo; rep from*.
Rounds 16, 17, 18 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Round 19 MC: *[brk1, sl1yo] 6 times, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 3 times; rep from*.
Rounds 20, 21, 22 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Round 23 MC: *brRsl, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brk1, sl1yo, brRsl, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 2 times, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo; rep from*.
Rounds 24, 25, 26 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Round 27 MC: *[brk1, sl1yo] 3 times, brRsl, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 6 times; rep from*.
Rounds 28, 29, 30 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Repeat [rounds 15-30] 3 times (or more depending on the height of the cowl that you want to obtain).

4. Intermediate rounds:
Knit these rounds once after the all the repeats of the pattern rounds if you want to make the cowl tighter in the upper part, than the base. If you knit them the cowl will be more like a loose turtleneck sweater collar than a usual loose cowl. If you want your cowl to have in the last round the same width as in the first round, just skip the intermediate rounds and knit the finishing rib.

Round 63 MC: *brRsl, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 3 times, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 2 times, brLsl, sl1yo*.
Rounds 64, 65, 66 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Round 67 MC: *brRsl, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 3 times, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo, brLsl, sl1yo*.
Rounds 68, 69, 70 = rounds 2, 3, 4

5. Finishing rib:
Just like for the brioche rib in the beginning, repeat rounds 2-3 until reached the desired rib height. Finish with round 4.

Bind off and weave in loose ends. I did the bind off after round 82.

I did "Lori's twisty bind off" for this cowl and it works perfectly.
In the video I demonstrate how to do it.

Full Chart:

The full chart is for brioche beginners. As the titles announces, it indicates all the rows. When you get more acquainted with brioche maybe you will want to use the compact chart just below the full one.Interweave Cowl - Full Chart

Compact Chart:

In the compact chart are indicated mostly the rows with increases and decreases. Between them are the rows similar to rows 2, 3, and 4 (with the exception of the fact that you have to work the “brkyobrk” stitches from the previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo and the “br4st inc” stitches from previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo, p1, sl1yo).
