Diamonds Hat is a brioche knitting pattern worked in brioche rib stitch. The hat's diamond motif is based on Nancy Marchant's pattern from "Knitting Fresh Brioche" where you can find a scarf pattern with the same diamond motif.
If you knit 2 repeats of the pattern in height it will be a normal beanie, for a slouchy one knit 3 and more pattern repeats.

Directions:
With main color yarn cast-on:(8 stitches x 8 pattern repeats) + 1 stitch for joining the round = 65 stitches
1. Set-up round:
Work row 1 with main color yarn.
Round 1 MC: *k1, sl1yo; rep from*.
After that, join the contrast color yarn and work round 2.
2. Brim:
Repeat rounds 2-3 until reached the desired brim height. Finish with round 4.
Round 2 CC: *sl1yo, brp1; rep from*.
Note: knit the “brkyobrk” sts from previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo
After each even round in contrast color yarn, pick-up the main color yarn and knit the odd round.
Round 3 MC: *brk1, sl1yo; rep from*.
After each odd round in main color yarn, pick-up the contrast color yarn and knit the even round.
Round 4 CC = round 2
Note: knit the “brkyobrk” sts from previous row as: sl1yo, p1, sl1yo
After each even round in contrast color yarn, pick-up the main color yarn and knit the odd round.
Round 3 MC: *brk1, sl1yo; rep from*.
After each odd round in main color yarn, pick-up the contrast color yarn and knit the even round.
Round 4 CC = round 2
3. Intermediate rounds:
Knit these rounds once after brim and before pattern.
Since the brioche rib with no pattern (like the brim) is always looser than brioche with pattern, before starting the pattern we are increasing the number of stitches so that the brim is tighter than the rest of the hat. That's the purpose of these intermediate rounds:
Round 15 MC: *brk1, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo, brk1, sl1yo, brkyobrk, sl1yo; rep from*.
Rounds 16, 17, 18 = rounds 2, 3, 4

Repeat [rounds 19-50] 2-3 times for a less or more slouchy hat.
5. Crown:
Round 83 MC: *brLsl, sl1yo, [brk1, sl1yo] 4 times; rep from*.

Round 90 = round 2
Round 91 MC: *brLsl, sl1yo; rep from*.
Round 92 = round 2
In round 93 you knit the first stitch and then pass all the other stitches over this stitch. This way you bind-off the remaining stitches. Cut the yarns leaving ends long enough to weave in.
